"Where Is The Outrage?"

Gas Prices are going up again. I hear folks complaining in conversations but there seems to be nothing that anyone can or will do. What's up with this?

Just a couple of years ago gas prices went up to around $4.00 per gallon. Gas companies made record profits quarter after quarter. There was no shortage. It seems as though the prices were only a manipulation of the market. Where was the government? Where was the outrage then?.

Now the national media suggested prices may go up to $5.00/gallon and the next day stations raised prices. Did the media spark this spike? Will there be record profits yet again? Is it another market manipulation? The explanation is worry about Iran. But Iran exports 2 % of world oil mostly to Europe. Is this another opportunity to take advantage of the public? Is there nothing that can be done?

It does not seem right that we get victimized this way. Why is government helpless? Why are fuel companies permitted to gouge? In this economy can we afford to just wring our hands and hope things get better?

In the 1970's there was a so-called shortage of oil that caused gas lines that went around blocks. Car manufacturers started increasing gas milage of automobiles. People changed their purchasing habits and oil companies kept prices down fearing the public would not permit gas prices to rise to $2.00 per gallon. Who would have thought of those as "the good old days"?

I do not believe there is nothing we can do. But we are a nation that seems to have lost its vision and will. From leadership to common folk we all live as if there is nothing we can do about anything anywhere. Does anyone else see danger in this? Do we need a disaster to wake us up, get us off our couches and hopefully save our nation?
